An intense day’s birding here in the spring will often produce sixty to seventy forest species including Pittas, Trogons, Forktails, Kingfishers and Babblers. Add to that the enigmatic Rail-Babbler and the Great Argus and you’ve had a great day’s birding.
More than 200 species of birds make their home in “ Khao Luang National Park” the located in the Southern Peninsular province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat.The hill evergreen and montane forest provide some of the best montane birds habitats in the country and many species found in Khao Luang national park are rare resident and found only in Southern Thailand.The park is set within the Nakhon Sri Thammarat mountain range providing a variety of wildlife habitat types in relation to elevation.
Within the park is tallest point in Southern Thailand, Khao Luang it stands 1835m tall, with cool temperatures as low as 5C, and tree species such as Oaks and Rhododendrons near the park at the lower elevations, there are high rainfall, humid climate and plants such as Dipterocarpacae, Leguminosae, Plam and Ficus species, Mosses, Ferns and Climbing vines. Of the park’s tourist spots, rung Ching waterfall is known to be the best birding location. Most species at Khao Luang are resident, so good bird watching is available all year round.
Day 1: Khao Luang National Park
Pick-up from air-port.(Phuket/Krabi province)
12:00 Transfer to Khao Luang. Check into Khao Luang national park bungalows. Lunch
14:00 Start the afternoon and explore the rare resident and migratory birds. On the way you’ll see Maroon Woodpecker, Malaysian Rail Babbler, Chestnut-naped, White-crowned Forktail, White-throated, Orange-headed Thrush, Brown-streaked, Red-throated Flycatcher, Red-bearded Bee-eater, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Yellow-breasted, Crimson-breasted, Thick-billed Flower pecker and other birds.
17:00 Return back to Bungalows.
18:00 Dinner.
20:00 Start the Night Bird watching and explore for the Javan Frogmouth, Buffy Fish Owl, Brown Wood Owl and other birds.
21:00 Return back to Bungalows.

Day 2: Khao Luang National Park
06:00 Breakfast.
06:40 Early morning birding, walk through the Rain Forest, to explore Malaysian Rail Babbler, Rufous-collared Kingfisher and other birds.
12:00 Lunch.
14:00 Start the afternoon birding program, explore the Banded Kingfisher, Blue-eared Kingfisher, Blue-banded Kingfisher, Rufous-winged Flycatcher, Asian Paradise Flycatcher and other birds.
17:00 Return back to Bungalows.
18:00 Dinner.
19:00 Start the Night Bird watching.
21:00 Return back to Bungalows

09:00 Early morning bird watching, You’ll see White-crowned Hornbill, Red-billed Malkoha, Chestnut-breasted Malkoha, Raffles’s Malkoha and other birds.

13:00 Start the afternoon bird watching program.
15:00 Transfer to air-port.
