This region covers kilometres of unspoilt, freshly discovered jungle, forests, mountains and oceans. Rich in culture, the people of southern Thailand offer a smile and a helping hand to all visitors Thai or foreign alike.
The main religion is Buddhism. Based on a concept of love and understanding. Buddhism can be observied in the way local people care and share a simple and meaningful life together. Although developing, Thais are keen to preserve their culture, religion and the environment, and welcome you to take an inside view of how they live.
We visit the area; Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Song Khla, Satun and Phattalung Province including national parks mountains, waterfalls and wildlife. We also visit Phang Nga Bay and Krabi, with unsurpassed views of some of the most amazing land features known to man, with secret caves featuring bats and diamonds – all in a day out at sea.
Trang, the quietest of all destinations, is completely unspoilt by westernisation and features islands and landscape that very few travellers have ventured upon.
Depending upon group size, you travel in anything from a 4X4 pick-up to a Traditional Thai “Songtaw” bus. Don’t worry; it’s all Thailand Journey Adventure standards.
SETTING: The Isthmus of Kra (Malay Peninsula) is a classic Land Bridge created by several karsts ridge systems rising above the current sea level. On land or at sea, limestone peaks abound. Within this rural coastal and lowland region are many still-hidden secrets known only to the locals. These Pockets of Paradise are your settings.
SEASON: Year round – this trip is great in sunny high season, and great in monsoon low season. The paddling is always safe and easy in protected coastal waters. Bring a rain jacket and enjoy the rainy season.
SKILLS: Ability to camp out, and eat great food. Non-swimmers must wear a PFD when paddling. No jerks please – our staff may take everybody to meet their family.
LODGING: Village and beach camping, often on family lands. Are in selected restaurants that prepare our special Thailand Journey Adventure meal plan.
ACCESS: Phuket and Hat Yai both have international airports with several flights each day. Both are served domestically by Thai Airways. Both Phuket and Hat Yai have numerous hotels in all ranges. Hat Yai hotels are excellent value for money.
