Thale Ban National Park , one of a few remaining rain forests that have narrowly escaped from massive rubber plantation in the Thailand’s southern peninsula close to Malaysia.
Rain forest covers both lowland areas and high elevations where forested crags add to the dramatic scenery. This area receives rain from April to November with the heaviest falls during June to October. The driest months are December to March. The hottest temperature is recorded in April and December the coolest month.
Thale Ban is a superb birding country, with at least 200 species confirmed plus a large number of other possible residents or seasonal visitors. The park’s headquarters is located in a valley floor between two limestone mountains and alongside a 32 hectare lake shaped like a figure of eight. From this beautiful spot there are several trails leading to the park’s major scenic places. the park can be reached from Malaysia side also. The distances from Alor Star and Penang are 80 km and 150 km respectively.
